· Nothing was done to tie the wall back into the hill. Water runoff was allowed to soak in behind it. Tons of mud put so much pressure on the wall that it just collapsed, only a few days after it was built. 2. Drylaid stone wall: This wall also failed because of backfill pressure. It was laid "plumb", with no tiebacks behind it.
