The calcination of the diatomite is carried out in a spiraling gas stream at high temperature, in which a ring of refractory beads remains in lift, ring within which the calcination and the controlled agglomeration of the diatomitic particles takes place. The amorphous structure of the silica is preserved: this gives very permeable filtration agents practically free of oristobalite.
