I have steel CBN wheels and love them most of the time except when I need to grind something that isn't hardened steel and then wish I had a regular grinding wheel. But that is a different story. My concern with going plasitc would be centricity.

When regrinding a carbide drill I usually only remove . and the drill does not even get warm, the edge looks nice at 10 power. The wheels have lasted for years doing a few drills a day.
